Do not burn candles longer than indicated

Did you know that burning candles for too long can be dangerous? When you burn a candle longer than the manufacturer’s instructions recommend, carbon starts to collect on the wick. This causes the wick to “mushroom,” making it unstable and producing a large, dangerous flame. Plus, your candle will start to smoke and release soot. To avoid this, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions – in general, You should not burn candles for longer than four hours, and they should be allowed to cool for at least two hours before being relit.

Candle care is essential to keep your candles burning evenly and make them last longer. By following a few simple steps, you can get the most out of your candles and avoid accidents.

Candle Care Tips

1. Time for the wax to melt completely

How to Properly Light a Candle

Allow enough time for the wax to melt completely to the edges of the container to prevent tunneling is a main Candle care tip and can be easy avoided. Once you allow your wax to melt to the edges it will evenly melt not allowing the walls of the candle to cave in on themselves. We recommend planning to have the candle on for 2 to  3 hours max ensuring that the candle melts evenly to get the most use. If you turn on a candle, let it burns for an hour then turn it off it will start forming wax walls not allowing you to fully use all the wax. We also recommend trimming the tip of the wick after or before every use to get a clean burn the next time you turn on the candle.

2. Avoid burning for more than 3 or 4 hours at a time

Candles are a popular way to add ambient lighting and a pleasant scent to any room. However, if not used properly, they can be dangerous. One of the most important things to remember is to trim the wick before each use. A wick that is too long will cause the candle flame to be unstable and produce soot. Soot is not only unsightly, but it can also be dangerous. Inhaling soot from candles can irritate your lungs and cause respiratory problems. To ensure that your candle burns clean, trim your wick to 1/4 inch.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when using candles is to avoid exposure to drafts and wind, as this can cause them to flicker and produce excess soot. Additionally, it is essential to keep candles away from direct sunlight or other heat sources, as this can also contribute to uneven burning. Furthermore, it is crucial to be aware of potential fire hazards like flammable curtains or paper products nearby that could catch fire in an accidental candle flame. Avoiding leaving any candle within reach of any child should be the first priority before lighting a candle, a child can easily burn them selfs and turn over the candle. We highly recommend leaving a candle in high places if you know there is a child around or planning to visit. Once the candle burns for more than 3 or 4 hours the fire will slowly dime because too much wax has melted that the wax is melting faster than the wick so the wax ends up turning the fire out. Allowing the candle to burn for 1 to 2 hours will let the wax melt all the way to the edges allowing all the wax to melt evenly. Melting a candle with too much can also burn the glass leaving black ash on the inside of the container.
